KVM extenders

KVM Pro: KVM Extender
To begin you will want to assess a few particulars about your project those being.

  • How far do I need to extend my KVM?

  • What sort of resolution do I push?

  • Will I need to extend Audio, DVI, USB, Serial?

  • What type of peripherals do I need to KVM extend are they PS/2, Sun, or Mac?

Wireless KVM Extenders are great for going through walls or using on a crash cart when cabling is not an option. They usually have a range of about 100 feet.

Cat5 KVM Extenders are the most common of all KVM extenders, they have a range from 100 up to 1,000 feet. Cat5 extenders will also give you more options when it comes to pushing a variety of prepherals such as Serial, DVI and even audio. Make sure you know what type of video resolution you want to push, sometimes this may have a bearing on what type of KVM extender medium you can use.

KVM over Fiber Extenders are by far the most robust extenders when it comes to signal strength, response delay and types of prepherals one can use. Some KVM over fiber can push DVI up to 3,300 feet. If you have the money Fiber is the most secure and cleanest way to extend your KVM prepherals.

KVM over IP Extenders are relatively new to the market KVM over IP has come a long way in price and preformance from it's beginings. It's now safe to say that KVM over IP extenders are a viable soltion when the application calls for Remote KVM access. Most are now IP addressable devices that you will hang off of your network switch and access via the launch of a browser giving you access from around the globe.

Building upon the base model, the EVS product line also offers factory options such as an integrated 4-port high speed USB 2.0 hub (“U” series) or a Firewire 800 connection (“F” series). The EVS series supports RGB and/or DVI video formats in single-link and dual-link DVI with unsurpassed image quality.
